     Hon. Sir Francis Grenville Clarke was born on 14 March 1879.¹ He was the son of Sir William John Clarke, 1st Bt. and Janet Marian Snodgrass.² He married Nina Ellis Cotton, daughter of Thomas Cotton, on 24 July 1901.¹ He died on 13 February 1955 at age 75.¹
     He was educated at Scotch College, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia^G.³ He held the office of President of the Legislative Council [Victoria] between 1923 and 1943.¹ He was a director of Goldsborough Mortgage and Company.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.)¹ He was vice-chairman of the National Bank of Australasia.¹
