     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Stanhope, of Stanwell House, co. Middlesex [U.K., 1807] on 24 January 1933.1 He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Chesterfield, co. Derby [E., 1628] on 24 January 1933.1 He succeeded as the 11th Baron Stanhope of Shelford, co. Nottingham [E., 1616] on 24 January 1933.1

     He held the office of Chief Constable of Herefordshire between 1895 and 1923.2

     Edward Henry Scudamore-Stanhope, 12th Earl of Chesterfield was born on 9 February 1889.1 He was the son of Hon. Evelyn Theodore Scudamore-Stanhope and Julia Dasha Potter.1 He married, firstly, Lorna Marie Lever, daughter of William Henry Lever, on 17 September 1915.1 He and Lorna Marie Lever were divorced in 1925.1 He married, secondly, Angela Domitilla Hopkins, daughter of Francis Patrick Hopkins, on 28 October 1931.1 He died on 2 August 1952 at age 63, without male issue.1
     He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Stanhope, of Stanwell House, co. Middlesex [U.K., 1807] on 2 November 1935.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baron Stanhope of Shelford, co. Nottingham [E., 1616] on 2 November 1935.1 He succeeded as the 12th Earl of Chesterfield, co. Derby [E., 1628] on 2 November 1935.1
     On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1
