Hugh Cartwright Cayley was born on 3 July 1901 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada.1,2 He was the son of Reverend Edward Cartwright Cayley and Alice Broughall.3 He married, firstly, Ethel Ann Farquharson Matthews, daughter of Wilmot L. Matthews, in September 1928.1 He married, secondly, Gladys Large, daughter of J. T. Large, in 1940.1 He died on 20 August 1967 at age 66 at Muskoka, Ontario, Canada.1,2
He graduated from Trinity College, Toronto University, Toronto, Ontario, CanadaG, in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 48th Highlanders of Canada.1
