Gilbert Francis Montriou Campion, 1st and last Baron Campion1

     Gilbert Francis Montriou Campion, 1st and last Baron Campion was born on 11 May 1882.1 He was the son of John Montriou Campion.1 He married Hilda Mary Spafford, daughter of W. A. Spafford, in 1920.1 He died on 6 April 1958 at age 75, without issue.1
     He was educated at Bedford School, Bedford, Bedfordshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Hertford College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1906 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1,2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Army Service Corps.2 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1917.2 He was Clerk Assistant in the House of Commons between 1921 and 1937.2 He wrote the book May's Parliamentary Practice, editor of the 14th and 15th editions.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1932.2 He was Clerk in the House of Commons between 1937 and 1948.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1938.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1948.1,3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by Hertford College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1950.2 He was created 1st Baron Campion, of Bowes, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 6 July 1950.1
     On his death, his barony became extinct.4 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3

     Hilda Mary Spafford is the daughter of W. A. Spafford.2 She married Gilbert Francis Montriou Campion, 1st and last Baron Campion, son of John Montriou Campion, in 1920.1
     From 1920, her married name became Campion.1

     Lady Jane Campbell is the daughter of Colin Campbell, 6th Earl of Argyll and Lady Anne Keith.1 She married, secondly, Sir Donald Campbell of Ardnamurchan and Airds, 1st Bt., son of John Campbell, 3rd of Cawdor.2 A contract for the marriage of Lady Jane Campbell and Angus Mackintosh was signed on 26 February 1585/86.3
     She was also known as Lady Jean Campbell.3 From 26 February 1585/86, her married name became Mackintosh.
