     Brig.-Gen. Arthur Ellershaw was born on 27 February 1869 at Bridlington, Yorkshire, England^G.¹ He was the son of Reverend John Ellershaw.¹ He married Nora Mary Middleton, daughter of J. T. Middleton, in 1926.¹ He died on 16 July 1929 at age 60, without issue.^1,2
     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England^G.¹ He was commissioned in 1888, in the service of the Royal Artillery.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1889.¹ He fought in the Northwest- Frontier between 1897 and 1898.¹ He fought in the Northwest- Frontier between 1903 and 1904, where he was seriously wounded.¹ He gained the rank of Major in 1909.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1916.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1921.¹ He retired from the military in 1925, with the rank of Brigadier General, late of the Royal Artillery.¹
