Muircheartach 'na Cochall Craicenn', King of Ailech was the son of Niall 'Glúndub', High King of Ireland and Gormfhlaith (?)2,3 He married, firstly, Flann (?), daughter of Donnchad Donn, High King of Ireland.1 He married, secondly, Dubhdara (?), daughter of Ceallach, King of Ossory, in 941.1 He died in March 943, killed in action.4
Muircheartach 'na Cochall Craicenn', King of Ailech also went by the nick-name of Muircheartach 'na Cochall Craicenn' (or in English, of the Leather Cloaks.)2 He gained the title of King of Ailech in 938.1 Before 941 he had established ascendancy over all Ireland on behalf of his father-in-law the High King.1 In 941 he frequently defeated the Norsemen based on Dublin, also carried war into the Norse-occupied Hebrides.1 He fought in the Battle of Ardee in March 943, against Blacar, King of Dublin.1
