James Agnew, 4th of Howlish Hall1

     James Agnew, 4th of Howlish Hall was baptised on 23 July 1783 at Auckland St. Andrew, County Durham, England.2 He was the son of Captain Robert Agnew, 3rd of Howlish Hall and Catherine Blennerhassett.1 He married, firstly, Mary Eleanor Bowes, daughter of Thomas Bowes and Dorothy Stephenson, on 1 August 1804 at Darlington, County Durham, England.2 He married, secondly, Helen Caroline Brandon on 10 August 1844 at St. Peter & St. Paul, Milton by Gravesend, Kent, England.2 He died in September 1847 at age 64, at sea, on the way to England from Dominica.1,2
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 26 December 1798 in the 65th Foot.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 21 March 1805 in the 14th Dragoons.2 He gained the rank of Captain on 25 November 1806 in the 6th Garrison Battery.2 He gained the rank of Captain on 17 December 1807 in the 8th Foot.2 He gained the rank of Brevet Major on 12 August 1819.2 He held the office of Colonial Secretary of the Virgin Islands on 18 July 1842.2 He held the office of Colonial Secretary of Dominica.1,2 He squandered and spent the estate.1

Margaret Agnew1

     Margaret Agnew was born circa 1772 at ScotlandG.1 She was the daughter of Captain Robert Agnew, 3rd of Howlish Hall and Catherine Blennerhassett.1 She married Harman Blennerhassett, son of Conway Blennerhassett and Elizabeth Lacy, in 1795, they also had two daughters who both died as infants. Margaret was Harman's niece.2 She died on 16 June 1842 at New York, U.S.A.G.3
     From 1795, her married name became Blennerhassett.2

Harman Blennerhassett1

     Harman Blennerhassett was born on 8 October 1764.1 He was the son of Conway Blennerhassett and Elizabeth Lacy.2,1 He married Margaret Agnew, daughter of Captain Robert Agnew, 3rd of Howlish Hall and Catherine Blennerhassett, in 1795, they also had two daughters who both died as infants. Margaret was Harman's niece.1 He died on 2 February 1831 at age 66 at Guernsey, Channel IslandsG.2
     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, in 1790 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Law (L.L.B.)1 He lived at Castle Conway, Killorglin, County Kerry, IrelandG, which he sold to the 1st Lord Ventry in 1795.1 At Parkersburg, West Virginia, U.S.A.G, He built a mansion on Blennerhasset Island.2 He lived at Blennerhassett Island, also called Blennerhassett Island, on the Ohio River, near Parkersburg, West Virginia, Parkersburg, West Virginia, U.S.A.G.1 He was ruined by involvement in Vice President Aaron Burr's secessionist schemes.1

Conway Blennerhassett1

     Conway Blennerhassett was born on 3 June 1720.2 He was the son of Conway Blennerhassett and Elizabeth Harman.2 He married Elizabeth Lacy, daughter of Major Thomas Lacy.2 He died after 1774.2
     He lived at Castle Conway, Killorglin, County Kerry, IrelandG.2

General Montgomerie Agnew1

     General Montgomerie Agnew was the son of Major James Agnew, 1st of Howlish Hall and Elizabeth Wilkinson.1 He died in 1808, without issue.1
     He gained the rank of Colonel in the Kings Dragoon Guards.1 He held the office of Governor of Carlisle Castle.1 He was educated at Breda, The NetherlandsG.1 He gained the rank of General in 1803.1

Captain Alexander Agnew1

     Captain Alexander Agnew was the son of Major James Agnew, 1st of Howlish Hall and Elizabeth Wilkinson.1
     He gained the rank of Post Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He was commander of the H.M.S. Fury in 1780 in action of Flamborough Head. After this action, he was court martialled for cowardice, and dismissed from the service.1

Major Thomas Ramsden Agnew1

     Major Thomas Ramsden Agnew was born in 1790.1 He was the son of Captain Alexander Agnew.1 He married Anna Drury.1 He died on 8 June 1874.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the 82nd Regiment.1 He fought in the Peninsular Wars in 1813.1 He held the office of Governor of Tipner Fort, Portsmouth.1
