Walter IV, Comte de Brienne was born in 1205.1 He was the son of Gauthier III de Brienne, Comte de Brienne and Maria Albiria di Sicilia, Principessa di Sicilia.1 He married Mary of Lusignan, daughter of Hugh I, King of Cyprus, in 1233.1 He died after 1244 at Cairo, EgyptG, as a captive.1
Walter IV, Comte de Brienne also went by the nick-name of Walter 'the Great' (?)1 He succeeded as the Comte de Brienne in 1205.1 He was created Count of Jaffa in 1239.1 He gained the title of Count of Ascalon, in the Holy Land.1 He gained the title of Comte de Lecce.1 He fought in the Battle of Gaza in 1244, where he was captured by the Mamelukes.1

Hugues, Comte de Brienne et Lecce was the son of Walter IV, Comte de Brienne and Mary of Lusignan.1 He married, firstly, Isabel de La Roche, daughter of Guy I, Duke of Athens, after 1275.1 He married, secondly, Helena Angelina Comnena, daughter of John Angelus Comnenos, Sebastocrator of Thessaly, in 1291.1 He died on 9 August 1296 at Brindisi, ItalyG, from wounds received in action.1
He gained the title of Baron of Karytena, in Greece, in right of his first wife.1 He succeeded as the Comte de Brienne in 1260.1 In 1264 he unsuccesfully claimed, through his mother, the Regency of Jerusalem.1 In 1267 he had the best claim to the Crown of Cyprus, but did not press the claim.1 He gained the title of Comte de Lecce circa 1268.1 Circa 1268 he recovered Lecce after taking part, with Charles d'Anjou, in the conquest of Naples.1 He held the office of Regent of Athens in 1288, during wife's nephew's minority.1 He fought in the defence of Brindisi on 9 August 1296, on behalf of the Angevins.1
