     Margaret Home was the daughter of Sir John Home of Blackadder, 3rd Bt. and Anne Nisbet.1,2 She married Hon. John Hamilton, son of Thomas Hamilton, 6th Earl of Haddington and Helen Hope, on 8 December 1728.3 She died on 11 February 1772.3
     From 8 December 1728, her married name became Hamilton.

     Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk was born on 20 June 1771.1 He was the son of Dunbar Douglas, 4th Earl of Selkirk and Helen Hamilton.1 He married Joan Wedderburn, daughter of James Wedderburn-Colvile and Isabella Blackburn, on 24 November 1807 at Inveresk, East Lothian, ScotlandG.1,2 He died on 8 April 1820 at age 48 at Pau, FranceG.1 He was buried at Pau, FranceG.3
     He was styled as Lord Daer between 1797 and 1799.1 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Selkirk [S., 1646] on 26 May 1799.1 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Daer and Shortcleuch [S., 1646] on 26 May 1799.1 From 1803 to December 1804 he travelled around Canada, founded a settlement on Prince Edward Island, and another, called Baldoon, in Upper Canada.1 He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1806 and 1818.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright between 1807 and 1820.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 7 July 1808.3 In 1811 , having received a grant of land from the Hudson Bay Company, he founded another settlement on the Red River, where Winnipeg is today.3 Between 1815 and 1819 he travelled extensively around Canada.3 On 14 November 1807
     Lord Auckland writes to Lord Granville, "Lord Selkirk is not much to be admired for either his political conduct or for his eloquence, but he is amiable and good in private life, and therefore I am glad that he is to marry Miss Wedderburn, the sister and particular friend of my Louisa."1

     Joan Wedderburn was the daughter of James Wedderburn-Colvile and Isabella Blackburn.1 She married Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk, son of Dunbar Douglas, 4th Earl of Selkirk and Helen Hamilton, on 24 November 1807 at Inveresk, East Lothian, ScotlandG.1,2 She died on 10 June 1871 at St. Mary's Isle, Kirkcudbrightshire, ScotlandG.1
     After her marriage, Joan Wedderburn was styled as Countess of Selkirk on 24 November 1807. From 24 November 1807, her married name became Douglas.

     James Wedderburn-Colvile was born on 28 August 1730.2 He is the son of Sir John Wedderburn of Blackness, 5th Bt. and Jean Fullarton.2,3 He married Isabella Blackburn, daughter of Andrew Blackburn, in March 1774.2 He died on 14 December 1807 at age 77.2
     He was given the name of James Wedderburn at birth.2 He was a slave owner and sugar planter before 1773 at Jamaica.4 He lived at Inveresk, East Lothian, ScotlandG.1
