     James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas was born in 1371. He was the son of Archibald Douglas, 3rd Earl of Douglas and Lady Joan Moray.2 He married, firstly, Lady Beatrice Stewart, daughter of Robert Stewart, 1st Duke of Albany and Margaret Graham, Countess of Menteith, before 1424.1 He married, secondly, Beatrice Sinclair, daughter of Henry Sinclair, 2nd Earl of Orkney and Egidia Douglas, before 7 March 1425/26.2 He died on 24 March 1442/43.2 He was buried at Douglas, ScotlandG.2
     James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas also went by the nick-name of James 'the Great'.3 In 1425 he was on the trial of the Duke of Albany.2 He was created 1st Earl of Avondale [Scotland] circa 1437.2 He succeeded as the 7th Earl of Douglas [S., 1358] on 24 November 1440.2 He held the office of Warden of the West Marches.2 He lived at Balveny, ScotlandG.4 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.5

     Lady Isabella Stewart is the daughter of Robert Stewart, 1st Duke of Albany and Margaret Graham, Countess of Menteith.1 She married, firstly, Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Ross, son of Walter Leslie, Earl of Ross and Eupheme de Ross, Countess of Ross, before 1398.1 She married, secondly, Walter Haliburton, son of Sir John Halyburton and Margaret Cameron, between 1402 and 1408.1

     Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Ross was born between 1367 and 1382.2 He was the son of Walter Leslie, Earl of Ross and Eupheme de Ross, Countess of Ross.3 He married Lady Isabella Stewart, daughter of Robert Stewart, 1st Duke of Albany and Margaret Graham, Countess of Menteith, before 1398.1 He died on 8 May 1402 at Dingwall, Ross-shire, ScotlandG.4
     He succeeded as the 7th Earl of Ross [S., c. 1225] circa 1394.1

     Eupheme Leslie, 8th Countess of Ross was the daughter of Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Ross and Lady Isabella Stewart.1 She died after 1424.1
     She succeeded as the 8th Countess of Ross [S., c. 1225] on 8 May 1402.2 On 24 July 1411 her inheritance was a cause of the Battle of Harlaw.2 On 12 June 1415 she resigned earldom and became a nun.2

     After her marriage, Lady Marjorie Douglas was styled as Countess of Atholl in February 1399/0. From February 1399/0, her married name became Stewart. From 1403, her married name became Haliburton.2

     Archibald Douglas, 3rd Earl of Douglas was born illegitimately circa 1325.1 He was the son of Sir James Douglas, 6th of Douglas.1 He married Lady Joan Moray, daughter of Morice Moray, 1st Earl of Strathearn and Joan Menteith, after 23 July 1362.2 He died from 24 December 1400 to 9 February 1400/1 at Threave, ScotlandG.1 He was buried at Bothwell, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.3
     He was also known as Archibald 'the Grim'.4 He fought in the Battle of Poitiers on 19 September 1356.3 He held the office of Lord Warden of the Marches between 1368 and 1400.3 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Douglas [S., 1358] on 14 August 1388.1 He was conservator of a peace with the English on 16 July 1390.3

     Christian Haliburton is the daughter of Walter Haliburton and Lady Isabella Stewart.1 She married George Leslie, 1st Earl of Rothes, son of Sir Norman Leslie of Rothes and of Fythkill and Christian Seton, in 1440.1,2
     She was also known as Christian Halyburton. From 1440, her married name became Leslie.1

     George Leslie, 1st Earl of Rothes was born circa 1417.1 He was the son of Sir Norman Leslie of Rothes and of Fythkill and Christian Seton.2 He married, thirdly, Elizabeth Campbell.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Lundin, daughter of John Lundin of that Ilk, circa 1435.2 He married, secondly, Christian Haliburton, daughter of Walter Haliburton and Lady Isabella Stewart, in 1440.1,2 He died from 31 August 1489 to 24 May 1490.2
     He was created 1st Lord Leslie [Scotland] in 1445.2 He was created 1st Earl of Rothes [Scotland] from 5 November 1457 to 20 March 1457/58.1,2 On 20 March 1457/58 he had his lands in the Sheriffdoms of Aberdeen, Elgin, Perth and Fife united into the territorial barony of Ballinbreich.2
