He was given the name of Montagu Bertie at birth. On 10 November 1687 his name was legally changed to Montagu Venables-Bertie.5 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Berkshire from 1689 to 1690.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Oxfordshire between 1690 and 1699.4 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Abingdon, Berkshire [E., 1682] on 22 May 1699.4 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Norris [E., 1572] on 22 May 1699. He held the office of Chief Justice in Eyre, South of Trent between 1702 and 1706.5 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 21 April 1702 to Queen Anne.4 He held the office of Constable and Lord-Lieutenant of the Tower of London between 27 May 1702 and 1705.4 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire between 10 June 1702 and 1705.4 He held the office of Chief Justice in Eyre, South of Trent between 1711 and 1715.5 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire between 17 May 1712 and 1715.5 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1714.6 He held the office of a Lord Justice, Regent of the Realm between 1 August 1714 and 18 September 1714.5 He held the office of High Steward of Oxford.5 He held the office of Recorder of Oxford.5 His last will was dated 3 April 1736.

Lady Honora Bourke was born circa 1674 at Portumna Castle, County Galway, IrelandG. She was the daughter of William Bourke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde and Lady Helen MacCarty.2,1 She married, firstly, General Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan, son of Patrick Sarsfield, circa 9 January 1689/90.1 She married, secondly, James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, son of James II Stuart, King of Great Britain and Arabella Churchill, on 26 March 1695 at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Île-de-France, FranceG.1 She died on 16 January 1697/98 at Pezénas, Languedoc, FranceG, from consumption.1,3 She was buried on 25 February 1697/98 at Chapel of the English Ladies, Pontoise, FranceG.4
She was also known as Honora de Burgh. From circa 9 January 1689/90, her married name became Sarsfield.1 From 26 March 1695, her married name became FitzJames. After her marriage, Lady Honora Bourke was styled as Countess of Lucan.

William Bourke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde was the son of Sir William Bourke and Joan O'Shaughnessy.2 He married, secondly, Lady Helen MacCarty, daughter of Donough MacCarty, 1st Earl of Clancarty and Eleanor Butler.3 He married, firstly, Lettice Shirley, daughter of Sir Henry Shirley, 2nd Bt. and Lady Dorothy Devereux.2 He died in October 1687.3
He gained the rank of Colonel in 1640 in the Royal Service.2 He succeeded as the 7th Baron de Dunkellin [I., 1543] in August 1666.2 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Bourke of Clanmories, co. Mayo [I., 1629] in August 1666.2 He succeeded as the 7th Earl of Clanricarde [I., 1543] in August 1666.2 He held the office of Lieutenant of County Galway in 1680.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] on 30 April 1681.2 He held the office of Governor of County Galway in 1687.2
