Thomas O'Hagan, 1st Baron O'Hagan of Tullahogue was born on 29 May 1812.1 He was the son of Edward O'Hagan and Mary Bell.1 He married, firstly, Mary Teeling, daughter of Charles Hamilton Teeling, on 5 February 1836.1 He married, secondly, Alice Mary Towneley, daughter of Charles Towneley and Lady Caroline Harriett Molyneux, on 2 August 1871.1 He died on 1 February 1885 at age 72.1
He was educated at Belfast Academical Institute, Belfast, County Antrim, IrelandG.1 He was a practising barrister in 1836 at Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1849.1 He was Commissioner of National Education, Ireland between 1857 and 1885.1 He held the office of Bencher of King's Inns in 1859.1 He was a practising Third Serjeant between 1859 and 1860.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General [Ireland] between 1860 and 1861.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1861.1 He held the office of Attorney-General [Ireland] between 1861 and 1865.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Tralee between 1863 and 1865.1 He held the office of Justice of teh Court of Common Pleas between 1865 and 1868.1 He held the office of Lord Chancellor [Ireland] between 1868 and 1874.1 He was created 1st Baron O'Hagan of Tullahogue, co. Tyrone [U.K.] on 14 June 1870.1 He held the office of Lord Chancellor [Ireland] between 1880 and 1881.1 He held the office of Vice-Chancellor of Royal University between 1881 and 1885.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of St. Patrick (K.P.) in 1882.1
