Sir Lionel Smith, 1st Bt. was born on 9 October 1778.1 He was the son of Benjamin Smith and Charlotte Turner.2 He married, firstly, Ellen Marianne Gallwey, daughter of Thomas Gallwey and Mary Mahony, on 7 July 1803 at Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland.1,3 He married, secondly, Isabella Curwen Pottinger, daughter of Eldred Curwen Pottinger and Anne Gordon, on 20 November 1819.1 He died on 2 January 1842 at age 63.1
