Smith also went by the nick-name of Busty.² He was commissioned in 1893 with the rank of Private, in the service of the Norfolk Regiment.² He fought in the First World War.² He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)² He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)² He retired from the military in 1932, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, late of the Norfolk Regiment.¹
