     Sir Robert Chapman, 1st Bt. was born on 3 March 1880.¹ He was the son of Henry Chapman and Dora Gibson.² He married Hélène Paris MacGowan, daughter of James George MacGowan, on 10 November 1909.¹ He died on 31 July 1963 at age 83.¹
     He was educated at South Shields High School, South Shields, County Durham, England^G.¹ He graduated from London University, London, England^G, in 1899 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was registered as a Member, Institute of Chartered Accountants (A.C.A.) in 1902.¹ He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches four times.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1916 in the Royal Field Artillery (Territorial Forces.)¹ He was awarded the Chevalier, Legion of Honour in 1917.¹ He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) in 1918.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants (F.C.A.) in 1919.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for South Shields in 1920.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Durham in 1921.¹ He gained the rank of Brevet Colonel in 1924.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1925.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Durham in 1930.¹ He was a senior partner of Henry Chapman Son & Company.¹ He held the office of Mayor of South Shields between 1931 and 1932.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Houghton-le-Spring between 1931 and 1935.¹ He was Honrary Colonel of the 74th Field Regiment Royal Artillery between 1935 and 1950.¹ He retired from the military in 1937.¹ He held the office of High Sheriff of County Durham in 1940.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1944.¹ He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1945.¹ He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire in 1946.¹ He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire in 1949.¹ He was appointed Officer, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (O.St.J.)¹ He was appointed Knight in 1950.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Chapman, of Underhill, Cleadon, near Sunderland, co. Durham U.K. on 30 January 1958.¹

     George Gibson Chapman was born on 3 May 1882.¹ He was the son of Henry Chapman and Dora Gibson.² He married Isabella Wilson.¹ He died on 31 December 1954 at age 72.¹
     He graduated from Peterhouse College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹

     Isabella Wilson married George Gibson Chapman, son of Henry Chapman and Dora Gibson.¹
     Her married name became Chapman.

     Alan Edward Chapman was born on 4 July 1883.¹ He was the son of Henry Chapman and Dora Gibson.² He died on 20 December 1898 at age 15.¹

     Lawrence Alfred Chapman was born on 18 March 1886.¹ He was the son of Henry Chapman and Dora Gibson.² He died on 3 February 1943 at age 56.¹
