Major Basil Tanfield Beridge Boothby was born on 14 January 1873.1 He was the son of Reverend Evelyn Boothby and Margaretta Jane Carr.1 He married Katharine Georgina Knox, daughter of Major Francis Blake Knox, on 23 October 1909.1 He died on 8 May 1948 at age 75.1
He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Engineer.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Civil Engineers (M.I.C.E.)1 He fought in the First World War between 1916 and 1919, serving in France and Flanders, and was mentioned in despatches twice.1
