     He gained the rank of Major on 19 March 1890 in the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment.¹

     Janet Alice Thornhill is the daughter of Reverend William Thornhill.¹ She married Major John Frederic Inglis, son of Maj.-Gen. Sir John Eardley Wilmot Inglis and Hon. Julia Selina Thesiger.¹
     Her married name became Inglis.¹
