     Lt.-Col. John Gordon was born in 1730.¹ He was the son of John Gordon and Grace Knox.² He married Elizabeth Bampfylde, daughter of Sir Richard Warwick Bamfylde, 4th Bt. and Jane Codrington, on 7 January 1780.¹ He died in 1782, without issue.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 50th Regiment.¹
