Maurice fitz Thomas, 1st Earl of Desmond was the son of Thomas fitz Maurice and Margaret de Berkeley.2,3 He married, thirdly, Aveline fitz Nicholas, daughter of Nicholas fitz Maurice, 2nd Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw and Slany O'Brien.4 He married, firstly, Katherine de Burgh, daughter of Richard de Burgh, 2nd Earl of Ulster and Margaret de Guînes, on 5 August 1312 at Green Castle, County Down, IrelandG.1,5 He died on 25 January 1355/56 at Dublin Castle, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.6
He was created 1st Earl of Desmond on 22 August 1329.
