Maurice Charles O'Connell was born on 15 June 1888.1 He was the son of John Maurice O'Connell and Mary McCartie.2 He married Emily O'Connell, daughter of Denis O'Connell, on 26 April 1915.1 He died on 29 April 1972 at age 83.1
He was educated at Clongowes Wood College, S.J., Clane, County Kildare, IrelandG.1 He gained the rank of officer in the 27th Battalion, 5th Regiment Northumberland Fusiliers (later amalgamated into Tyneside Irish.)1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919.1 He was with the Irish Army between 1922 and 1946.1
